knit design: all about the front
thank you for sharing your thoughts of my last post. doesn't seem like i'm a loner here, does it? blogging really has motivated me to knit more but as much as i love the progress, i am a product oriented knitter. as such, all the knits you see here, whether it will end up as a successful sweater or a pile of frogged yarns, will ultimately have a closure.
today i will once again rely on my readers for a direction. i have *successfully* finished the back piece of my alpakka sweater, and i actually love it! whew.
so help me decide, should i make the front piece with:
1) same colors, same patterns, same everything?
2) similar colors with slight pattern variation?
3) different colors, similar patterns?
4) completely different (but still be harmonious with the rest)?
thank you again, and it does seem like a bigger deal than necessary as it is just a sweater, but you know, it means more than a sweater to me!

Well, I'm a plain Jane. I would knit the front with the same colors, and same overall arrangement, but incorporate stripes in the sleeves.

The back looks really awesome!!!I vote for same colors but slight pattern variation. Can't wait to see what you decide! I'm sure that it will be lovely.

it's a beautiful start of a sweater! The pattern and the stripes work so well together. I would go for the same pattern on the front - and the same colors - but maybe considered changing their position. Maybe - but maybe the simplest way is the best - same everything. Can't wait to see it done! The baby alpaca/silk is so delicious!! And I can so much relate to your thoughts in your last post!!

I'd use similar colors and a slightly different design pattern. Shake it up without going completely crazy. Beautiful start!

I vote for similar colors w/ slight pattern variation. The back looks great - I can't wait to see the front.

I vote for the same for the front piece so you can do really interesting things with the pattern in the sleeves without things being too busy.

I'm also for the same colors with a pattern variation!

I'm with everyone else... same colors, different pattern variation. I think that way there is something that is constant (the colors) to anchor it all together.

I love the colors you chose. They look so good together. I vote for same colors and same patterns for the front. Can't wait to see it finished.

My vote is for 4) completely different, but still harmonious with the rest. I think even very different front pieces will work overall. Just do what is interesting to you, and see where it goes..

I would have the same vertical pink stripe running up the side, so that when you seam up you'll have that pink stripe bisecting the front from back. I think that would look cool. Even a stripe in a different color.

same. The pink stripe running up the inside of the arm would be cool too.

My vote is a mixture of 2 &4. For the most part keep the same colors but vary the pattern and randomly through in a few thin stripes (or thin patterns)in a different color. The back piece looks great.

i would go with different colors, similar pattern. i don't like things too matchy-matchy. it tends to look store-bought and sort of defeats the purpose of knitting. well, it defeats my personal purpose for knitting. can't wait to see what you decide to do with it!

I'd go with same colors, same pattern. But that is more because I probably wouldn't wear something that was too different. So I guess the real question is, what are you most likely to wear?

I love your design! My vote is for number 2. But you should go with your instincts, it's worked for you so far!

I love the colours! I would opt for same colours but different pattern. If you do decide to have the front same as the back, then do something funky to the sleeves. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll turn out great! :o)

I vote for the same with slight color variation. It looks fantastic---you have a great eye for colors!

Make them the same! Sit back and enjoy the process. You do great work!

I like the idea of doing similar colors, but with some pattern variation - like stripes, but not in the same order or the same width. the colors in the back work together so beautifully - subtle, but dynamic.
