knit project: lemon tree socks (simple 2 x 2 ribbed pattern)
difficulty (1-5): 1.2
size:women's small (64 stitches, long tail cast on)
yarn: lana grossa's meilenweit cotton fun & stripes in 336
knitting specs: US 1 cir.

these colors reminded me of 70's fashion. shoes, too. i think i would wear them a lot this fall. with a semi politically incorrect t-shirt and a pair of jeans.

did you notice the colors are in complete reverse of each other? i forgot that i've re-wound one of the skeins. it doesn't bother me, i like the blue and yellow toes. that's more 70's irreverence for you.

socktoberfest is kicking off with this pair of lemon tree socks i started back in the spring. i never wear socks in spring/summer anyway, it is good timing. these socks do look/fit a little big. it's probably because of cotton.

so jeans... i'm quite bewildered how expensive these things have gotten, can't get a decent pair without spending some serious money now. i'm going to get me a pair of nice jeans anyway. any recommedation on a brand? for a petite person like myself, i hope i can find a decent pair without having to re-hem them. yikes.

falling behind

i was traveling to washington dc for business the past few days, what an exhausting trip! i did not have time to mix business with pleasure, only some obligatory scenes of the place:

capital hill can be an interesting place, wish i had more time to explore.

i was really happy to read all of the comments from you about my top. i've worn it to work already but nobody said anything, they probably think i bought it. this silence from others is really a compliment to me, strangely. i am glad that my friends no longer look at me and said "did you make this"!!

i thought i'd knit a lot during my trip, but i had only managed to cast on and knit the second lemon tree sock. my cornflower tunic is close to finish and it looks like i may be able to wear it to cape cod next week, as i had planned from the beginning. lovely!

lemon tree sock .5

this is my lemon tree socks half way to a pair. that was few weeks ago actually. my focus has since been shifted to sewing... thanks for all the suggestions on cotton fabrics. i will embark on a quest for the most appropriate form of cotton for my summer dress. one more thing, if you are also in atlanta and know of a good quilt/fabric store that is not joann nor hancock fabrics, please tell me, m'kay!

lemon tree sock was knit with meilenweit cotton/wool blend yarn. machine washable and actually quite comfortable to wear. i think self striping yarn looks best in stockinette stitches, ribbing sort of takes away the crispness of the stripes. anyway. it is after all just a pair of socks. i will wear it often and i'm sure it is going to be comfortable enough to forget about the boring process this sock pattern has given me.

well, of course i'll need to finish the second sock. i hope my second sock will also give me this tiniest bit of yellow when grafting off. i love having symmetry in my socks. very unnecessarily anal but sadly that's just how things are around here.

just a yellow lemon tree

yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky,
and all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree

i love this song - lemon tree by fools garden. in fact, i heard it for the first time as a translated version by a female taiwanese artist. i did not find out who the original artist was until years later when i played this song again on CD, my american friend told me.

anyway... i feel the need to knit something simple, something spring. colors of yellow, blues and green seem to be so appropriate for my current state of mind. i am making a pair of ribbed socks. i am calling it lemon tree.

lemon tree is going to be at least 10 inches long before i make the heels, that is if i can decide what kind of heels to make. nonetheless, i think the cotton is going to be wonderful to wear in summer.

i wore my blue cobalt cardi to work on friday and i totally loved it! it was a cloudy day with a bit of chilly breeze, i wore a pair of very broken in jeans and a very worn out grey t-shirt with the cardi, it felt so perfect and comforting. like having a bowl of beef stew. all day long i was immersed in this wonderful feeling and thinking about the generous comments from all of you. you guys made my day.
